How to stop Procrastinating

Procrastination, the thief of your time, the thing that you wish you could have control over and something that each and everyone of us is guilty of.

Recently, I had my mid-terms and I know what I had to study however, the only thing I could find myself doing was procrastinate. I would do everything in my power to avoid the thought of studying: watching YouTube videos, drawing, social media, etc. Eventually, when I came to my senses that I had to study, I realized that how insensible it was to let go off my precious time in doing something that I could have even after the exams.

Surely, everyone struggles to NOT procrastinate and ends up doing it. Hence, I decided to write a few hacks on how we can try not procrastinating.

TIP #1

Make a list of everything that you want to do and stick it on the place where you can see it the most.

This tip helped me the most. It helps you keep everything organised as well as keeps you reminding of the work that needs to be done. The list need not be on a paper, you can also write them in the notes on your phone (that’s what I do).

When you are done with one thing on the list just scrap it off with a pen, believe me when you do this you feel so accomplished and productive that you are also motivated to complete the list as soon as possible so that you have time for leisure.

TIP #2

Ask yourself that how much time it would take to do the work you want to now. If it takes less than 2 minutes to do, DO IT NOW. This is the 2 minute rule.

You would be surprised that how much work you could do under those two minutes. For example, you finished eating your meal and you have to wash the dishes, do it now. If you need to pack your bag for school tomorrow do it now. If you need to write points on your blog post do it now (that was for me :P).

TIP #3

Download apps  which help you prevent from going on social media or selective websites that you choose to block for the certain amount of time.

Actually, this idea was recommended to me by one of my seniors when I was giving my final IGCSE boards. The most of the time I want to do something, I am distracted by that one pop-up notification on my mobile, furthermore I get carried away with what next is new on internet. To beat it, this is a really good way from which you can choose that what all you want to block and for how long.

App Names: freedom, rescue time, etc.

These above given tips have helped me in some way especially tip number 1. I hope this article helps you prevent procrastination 🙂

Imagine all the things you’d accomplish if you never procrastinated, seems like impossible?
